Galas actively worked in the educational research community at UCLA for 13 years.  She worked on research projects in technology, including electronic concept maps, Logo programming design projects, immersive computer simulations in math and science, safe school anti-bullying program development, children’s anxiety, and children’s discourse in play. Galas both served to group workfacilitate implementation of several pre-formed projects with lab school students, and worked closely with researchers and graduate students on initial project conception through implementation. Galas consulted on instructional design, collaborated on implementation of project and construction of pre and post assessments, gathered curriculum resources, wrote appropriate curriculum, conducted classroom inquiry and projects. She also conducted several informal action-research studies, based on her interests and students observations. She facilitated data gathering by graduate students and post-docs, wrote articles for professional journals on research studies and presented findings and teacher perspective on project implementation at local, national, and international conferences.
