Cathleen Galas has more than two decades experience working as a consultant in education. She has written curriculum, conducted professional development, and developed assessments, for educational agencies, schools, and districts.  Her work has focused on the integration of technology into instruction, especially in the areas of math and science.  She provided professional development for NCREL and the US Defense Department teachers from the Atlantic and European sites at Leesburg, Virginia, and to the Pacific Rim site teachers in Seoul, Korea.  Galas worked with the Galef Institute in developing and testing science and social studies curriculum using the arts and providing teacher professional development. kids dancingShe has worked in the arts community and the educational technology community, providing professional development, curriculum development, and assessment work. 

Galas is currently writing open source, online science Teacher's Guides for Flexbooks with Ck-12 Foundation. Prior to the book projects, she was working with Alan Kay and his OLPC group at Viewpoints Research on curriculum support and user interface for the One Laptop Per Child Project (OLPC), Numedeon Inc. on teacher support for Whyville classroom interventions, and The California Arts Project on development and pilot testing of an online arts education program assessment for California schools and districts. The first phase of TCAP pilot testing was reported on at the American Educational Research Association (AERA) annual meeting in Chicago in April 2007. Second year pilot testing and revisions, including scaling up statewide use and documentation was presented as a paper at AERA in New York in 2008.
